Plant or position your tree fern in a partly shaded location in humus-rich, well-drained soil. Water regularly - Dicksonia antarctica thrives in warm, humid conditions and likes water all over, inclujding crown and trunk. Protect your tree fern in winter with plant fleece to prevent damage from the cold. Although classed as evergreen, it can be deciduous in cooler areas.

Dicksonia antarctica is very slow growing - only about 3-5cm a year so will take many years to grow to its full height of 4m. It's ideal therefore to keep as a pot grown plant and is an eye-catching feature plant for any patio or garden.
