In the spring, this tree puts on a show with its lovely pure white flowers, which then give way to cherries that ripen between late July and early August. Known as sour cherries, these Morellos are great for using fresh or popping in the freezer to enjoy later. It’s a tough little tree that’s earned the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and it’s just right for planting against a north-facing wall. The Morello cherry tree does especially well against north or east-facing walls, where it produces large, juicy cherries with a lovely bittersweet flavour when they’re ripe.
