Keeping Those Hedges Trim Next To Artificial Turf

Artificial grass is trending upwards quickly with a reported 200% year-on-year increase in sales reported in the UK. Some companies are installing as many as 5,000 lawns per year. With a perfect, maintenance free lawn, you’ll now have plenty of time to make those hedges perfect, but it’s important to pick the right hedge to bolster the overall aesthetics. Taking care of it properly is important in making it match your artificial turf.

Keeping up a healthy green lawn takes a lot of maintenance. All the watering, cutting, fertilizing, weeding, and edging is more than enough to deal with. There’s also soil testing and adjusting it appropriately so your lawn can get the nutrients you’re feeding to it. Even with all that you’re still going to have discoloured patches, disease and lets not forget the insects. Any of those factors can wipe out even the best lawn. All of these factors contribute significantly to pollution as well. So maybe it’s time to ditch the lawn. Let’s focus on your English garden, topiary, and vegetables, and keep the over fertilizing and over watering of lawns out of the equation. So before you green your hedges you may want to invest in an artificial lawn.

You now have your beautiful, carefree turf installed. Everyone can see it and although you’re delighted it looks beautiful, you don’t want the neighbours peeking in all day. Go to your local nursery and bring a sample of your turf with you. Having your sample will really let you play with the aesthetics of your yard. You can match your greenery to your grass like a pro. Choose flowers that are complementary or really stand out perfectly. Have the botanists point you to native and noninvasive species. They should also be able to direct you to non- native species of hedges and plants that will not cause a negative impact. Boxwood shrubs are a great hedge plant that grow to many different heights and are also terrific for topiary.

While piecing together your landscape design make sure to check the zone hardiness in your area first. Then look for the proper sunlight exposure, water needs, drought tolerance, and feeding schedule. Draw your yard and plants out on graph paper and double check everything is in an area where it can thrive once established. Most hedges and trees take a lot of water when first planted and require a hole about 2X the size of the root ball. Get your hedges off to a healthy start and they will stay healthy with less maintenance as they establish themselves through the first year. Trim your hedges seasonally to specifications. Trimming keeps them green and promotes growth. This will keep your hedges looking as good as your turf, and cleaning up will be easy too.

Keeping your neighbours envious will be the easiest thing you did this growing season. Keep an eye on your plants. If you notice any yellowing or an overabundance of insects, then bring a sample to your local nursery and they’ll sort you out. Most of all enjoy your hard work and take delight in what you have created.
